about
(via Live for Live Music): "“Random Excess” is a state of reflexive release in the presence of ecstatic stimuli. It was recorded by John Davis (Black Keys, Lettuce, Brad Meldhau) at Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, NY and appropriately functions as a portal into the spacey, sonic world of Escaper. Kadet’s keys set a mellow tone, only to change course as a four-on-the-floor drum beat and funkified bassline elevate the energy. Sprawling licks from Kadet move “Random Excess” towards the outer limits of the atmosphere before Hanza’s overdriven guitar phrases blast off into cosmic territory. The chemistry between the four members is clear as the song moves to the climax, which then falls back down to Earth before closing with a melodic progression from the keys."
Yup, funk! Gorgeous album, every track a winner. There's a degree of Ill Considered in the sound, so if you like them, definitely check this out. Peter Jones
